I might be making it sound more exciting than it really is -- okay, I AM making it sound more exciting -- but for us it IS exciting because it’s the culmination of restructuring our entire lives so that we love what we do and have a wonderful work/life balance.
Sounds a bit airy fairy, doesn’t it? Believe me, I despise self-help books and loathe inspirational orgies group sessions and anything along those lines, however Alex and I had to do a whole lot of soul searching and talking and planning and we even used a pen and wrote stuff on paper. Pretty cool, eh? Things came to a head for us when my older kids decided that they wanted to go and live with their dad -- one of the main reasons being that I never spend time with them because I’m always working.
I thought that by working hard I was giving them everything they wanted when in fact, I had neglected to give them what they needed most -- me. Then to add to that, there was a whole lot of other stuff that also reared its ugly head and forced us to sit down and talk. I know… actual talking! It took us by surprise also.
We have made some huge changes and we are now on the path to making the changes work. One of the things we are doing is this web diary thingee. We decided to do it because we want people to know that we are human, we are normal and just trying to have a life and feed two-four kids while working a job that we love.
We both hope that you don’t die of boredom while watching this and we promise most sincerley that the next thingee will be 3 minutes or less. Oh, and please excuse the EXTREMELY poor colour and quality. Technical issues that I hope to have fixed before the next time.
Much love to you all, I better get off the computer now because I’m breaking my own rules by being on here and working after 5pm.
p.s. I’m the blonde, Alex has the beard.

Congrats and good luck with the new life changes guys, so worth it as your loved ones will remember the things you didn’t do for a lot longer than your clients will remember what you did do. More people need to realize this. Xx

Good on you for making these changes guys – I’m sure many of us at HOTD did a similar thing – I know I did. (and I can see why you edited out Alex – he does talk a lot doesn’t he?)

I love this! You’re brave (and wise) to do a personal video, and the captions were great. You’re a cute couple.

Good for you guys! I’m trying to make similar changes. One thing that helps me is outsourcing. I’m working on taking the things that are not my core competencies and getting someone else to do them. Like you hiring a receptionist. Brilliant!

I wish you the best- life changes are by definition never easy, but you seem to be on the right path to achieve it!
