It’s How We Roll – what you don’t see happening at Savvy Studios

We’ve had a huge week this week so I haven’t blogged anything between last week’s diary and this week’s. However this video is very different to our usual diary posts.

One of the things we come across quite often is a total lack of understanding of what being a full time photographer entails. I have lost count of the amount of people who say, “You have an easy job. All you do is press a button.” People don’t realise that when we are out there ‘pressing a button’ they are seeingĀ just 5% of what our work encompasses.

I filmed the pieces of this video over a couple of days between doing the usual client and studio work. Keep in mind thatĀ I work fulltime hours from the house with the kids around me so this is also a little bit about the work/life balance that has become so important to us.

Please excuse the dodgy video production, I’m not a videographer (but it was fun putting this together)

And because I know that if you’re anything like me, you want to see an image or two from the shoot that was in the video… so here you go.

The stunning blonde is Paula, my best friend in the world and truly the most amazing make-up artist/beauty therapist I’ve ever worked with (everyone needs to book her!). These photos are a gift for her 30th birthday with her childhood friend Mel. I love them… but I might be a little biased.;)

Oh Alicia – I love seeing a little bit of your world and all it entails .. well put together .. and it’s good to share all the behind-the-scenes stuff. I think pressing the button(S!)on the camera is what, 0.01% of the job? :)

Love it.

Thanks for making this and bringing this dilemma to a reality. It’s sad how misinformed some of our clients are. I may just refer some of mine to this video the next time I get one of those “…you must love your job since all you do is take photos!” kind of comments :) Thank you, Alicia!

Thanks for taking the time to make this. I don’t think people realize just what goes into their photos – the shutter button being 5% of the work is actually, probably an overstatement!

I think that was better than an bio you could have written. I really got a sense of your family and your business. Loved the peek into your life. Thank you so much for sharing.

Cute little video! Being a photographer really isn’t about pushing the button – thanks for pointing that out to other people too :)

That video was super fun – and it’s always so cool to see a studio set up vs the final image. =)

Love your video!! That quote in the end is one I quoted to my hubby when he was complaining about his job the other day. We have the lucky advantage to love what we do and be happy!

I love it Alicia! Your boys are so cute! “Being a photographer is not just about pushing a button.” No, it also involves sitting in front of a computer until you’re nearly blind… Cheers Alicia.
